If you are a victim of abuse, you may want to ask the Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service whether or not they screen for lawyers who are experienced in handling domestic violence cases.  For a suggested list of questions to ask regarding the lawyer’s fees and experience when interviewing an attorney, go to our Choosing and Working with a Lawyer page.

The Indiana State Bar Association does not provide a lawyer referral service. However, many of the local bar associations do provide this service. You can find the list of county Bar Associations at the website above. To learn more, please call the county where you reside and ask if they have a lawyer referral service and if the lawyers in that program offer low-cost initial consultations.
