There is a law in CT that says that any tenant who is a victim of family violence who believes that it is necessary to vacate his/her rental unit due to fear of immediate harm to the tenant (or his/her child) because of family violence, can terminate his/her rental agreement with the landlord without penalty or liability for the remaining term of the rental agreement.  The tenant has to give at least 30 days written notice to the landlord before the date s/he wants to terminate the rental agreement.*  As of January 1, 2014, this law will also apply to victims of sexual assault.
